A Rally for People-Centered Policies in Kansas.

Join organizations across the state as we unite to let our elected officials know we demand legislation that puts people over politics and human needs over billionaires’ greed. 

We’re filling the second-floor rotunda of the State Capitol with a peaceful protest that makes clear – human needs ARE human rights.

Our neighbors are being denied healthcare, stripped of SNAP benefits, and kidnapped by ICE. Meanwhile, our legislature wants to steal our vote by redrawing our maps.

FAQ 

Are there carpooling opportunities?  

• In Johnson/Wyandotte County. 9:30 a.m. Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church, 9400 Pflumm, Lenexa, Kansas. If you need a ride, come. If you can offer a ride, come. We’ll have donuts and coffee! 
• Other cities have carpooling options? Email: [email protected] and we’ll include them here. 

 

Where do we enter the Capitol? 

From the parking garage located on the north side of the building, you’ll find signs to take the elevator to the Visitor Center, which is located on the main floor. The rally is on the second floor Rotunda.

Can we bring signs? 

Please bring signs! Our goal is to tell the legislators what we demand more than what we oppose. 

We’re wearing green? 

We love the idea of a united color for the group so, if possible, wear green! 

How are we using this event to support our fellow Kansans?  

• Showing up in unity supports ALL Kansas. But, in addition, feel free to bring non-perishable food items. We’ll be collecting for area pantries!

Where can we park? 

In addition to street metered parking, there are many options: 

Kansas State Capitol Visitor Parking

• • Underground parking garage right at the Capitol (entrance on 8th Avenue between Harrison and Van Buren).
  • Space is limited, especially when the Legislature is in session or during big events.
  • Elevators go directly to the Capitol Visitor Center.

     

Crosby Place Public Parking (108 SW 8th Ave)

• • Paid hourly parking. Typically easier than on-street meters during busy times.

     

Centre City Public Parking  (109 SW 9th Ave)

• • Paid hourly parking. Good option if the Capitol garage is full.

     

Curtis Parking Garage (198 SW 11th St.) 

• • Paid parking. Useful overflow option if closer garages fill up.
